1.8 GWh independent Australian battery
Baranduda Electrical Energy Reserve is an independent standalone battery connected to a key strategic transmission location designed to support NSW and Victoria energy markets.
This asset is designed to provide the wider Australian energy market with arbitrage and long term grid support services.
The advanced design of this battery is to be flexible over its 30+ year life to provide services to multiple customers as market needs and requirements change in the Australian energy market.
Behind the meter asset portfolio
Birdwood’s Juice investment provides financing of commercial and resident behind the meter assets across all states and territories of Australia.
With over $30m of asset across 400 commercial businesses Juice Energy extends Birdwood’s reach into the small and medium-sized business market, where it can provide customers both energy security and immediate savings.
Aided by the Birdwood team’s decades of experience deploying batteries globally, the integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) behind the meter offers Juice customers sustainable growth as more of them look to implement a Net Zero strategy.
South Australia DC coupled battery and solar
One of the first DC coupled battery retrofits to an existing operating solar farm in Australia.
Birdwood’s team retrofitted an innovative DC coupled battery on an existing operation solar farm to enhance returns for its investors.
The integrated battery-PV asset provides the full range of arbitrage, import/export firming and FCAS services.
South Australia distributed solar and storage
Birdwood has acquired a portfolio of operating solar farms in SA. Birdwood is optimising operations of these solar farms which were built in 2019 and retrofitting these with batteries to provide enhanced returns to investors.
By retrofitting batteries to the assets Birdwood will provide firm and more reliable power to the South Australian market.
Construction is expected in 2024 for battery augmentation on this portfolio.
NSW accelerated solar and solar developments
Birdwood’s investment is supporting developers to accelerate development of key distributed energy projects to provide firm energy to the NSW market which has a shortage of generation as coal fired power stations retire service.
Birdwood has worked with local developers to accelerate development, invest in the projects and construct these for operation.
This project portfolio will be DC coupled PV and battery projects to provide reliable power to NSW.
NSW portfolio of grid solar projects
Acquisition of a portfolio of ready to build solar projects which Birdwood has completed construction and is converting operation to DC coupled PV-battery assets.
These assets will provide firm energy to the NSW market. The assets commenced generation in 2024
Queensland distributed solar
Acquisition and operation of one of the earliest grid solar projects connected to the Australian grid in 2018 located in central queensland. Birdwood has implemented Agrivolatics on this project, mixing sheep grazing with energy generation.
